Messi suffered knock in Saturday's La Liga clash with Vancia that ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Argentine trained with his teammates in the last session ahead of the game at 21:00 at the Camp Nou.

"But risking the fitness of any player - Messi or anyone else - I'm not really in favour of it because they inevitably play with some fear, and games like tomorrow can not be played with fear".

But Messi's importance to the side has been demonstrated since he returned from that injury in November - he has scored in each of his last nine games, including two at the weekend as Barca came from 2-0 down to draw with Valencia.

Ousmane Dembélé, who recently recovered from an ankle injury and is now battling tonsilitis also trained having worked out on his own on Monday.

"We did not play well in the first half but then we showed our character and we dominated", said Barca midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

Shortly before training, Valverde had said in a press conference: "I have not seen him yet and I don't have an answer".

"When we prepare the game obviously we have the reference of the players and how they performed [in the 5-1], but there was a different morale [at Madrid] at that time, that counts for a lot".

'I'm not in favour of taking risks with so many games coming up, if the season finished tomorrow, it would be another matter.

"We put in a massive effort, it's not easy to play against Valencia who were feeling more confident after their recent results".

"In a semifinal between Barca and Madrid there's no favourite".

"Cristiano is the best player in the world because Messi is playing another sport", he said.

Real Madrid have a demanding month ahead of them with matches in LaLiga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey. In La Liga this season we were superior, we won, but they were in a delicate moment.
