Beane was asked by ESPN's Pedro Gomez, just before Murray's announcement, if the A's would have handled the draft differently knowing what they know now - that Murray would win the Heisman Trophy and be a projected first-round National Football League draft pick.

Relating to the Patriots, they will always be interested in quarterbacks as long as Tom Brady is still on the roster since they need to find an eventual replacement. If he's selected anywhere in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, he can expect to earn more than twice what he'd have earned with the Athletics' signing bonus; last year's No. 32 overall pick, Lamar Jackson, signed for almost $9.5MM and will earn the entirety of that sum.

Only one problem: the team drafted QB Josh Rosen in the first round just past year. Oakland started spring training workouts Monday and had a locker with a No. 73 jersey waiting for him. Murray was allowed to play his final season for the Sooners and won the 2018 Heisman Trophy.

"Football has been my love and passion my entire life", the 2018 Heisman Trophy victor wrote on Twitter. One can imagine that all of those factors were weighed heavily by Murray when making the decision to ultimately spurn the A's in pursuit of football. But, hey, that's the risk they took in drafting Murray and hoping that they could convince him to stick with baseball.

The Heisman Trophy victor has been pushed toward football after an incredible junior season in which he threw for 4,361 passing yards and 42 touchdowns for Oklahoma.

The Giants have the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and are considered one of the few teams with a top pick that needs a quarterback.

Murray added that he's already started an "extensive training program" to prepare for the upcoming National Football League scouting combine.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, the Giants appear to be an unlikely landing spot for Kyler Murray.
