Ariana Grande axes #Grammy performance

Cape Town - Pop singer Ariana Grande will reportedly not perform at The Grammy Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Variety further writes that following a compromise, '7 Rings' was going to be part of a medley, but Grande withdrew when producers insisted that the second song in her set be of their choosing.

The whole thing is quite shocking since Grande is actually on the nominee list in two categories - Best Vocal Performance for God is a Woman and Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener. And because their demands for Ari's performance at this year's ceremony were so, erm, Grande, she has pulled the, erm, Grande move of backing out of the show. The Grammys committee was using her likeness in promotional billboards all across Los Angeles, with tons of marketing devoted to her now-cancelled February 10 performance.

Grande has been uncharacteristically quiet about this reported development on social media, so it's at least possible that the decision is not final and something can be worked out.

The Thank U, Next song reached 100 million plays in just 11 days, setting yet another record for the Spotify streaming service.

Other performers at the ceremony, including Camila Cabello, Miley Cyrus and Shaw Mendes, were subject to this kind of scrutiny, according to Variety.

As Billboard pointed out in a separate article, the album's success was "a rare new peak for a late-'10s pop star" and was especially significant "because not many of her pop star peers are doing so alongside her".
