MIA spokesman Greg Chin told the Miami Herald that the security checkpoint at Terminal G would be closed beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

TSA has brought on about 500 new officers since the shutdown with 300 more expected to start later this month.

Almost 800,000 federal workers across the country are either on furlough or working without pay through the shutdown, as thousands now apply for unemployment, CNBC reported. Rather than having less staff on each terminal, the airport has taken the decision to close one terminal completely and redistribute staff.

At New York's LaGuardia Airport, fliers had to wait in almost hour-long security lines on Sunday.

And, up until a few days ago, many agents have powered through the shutdown.

As a precautionary measure due to uncertainties created by the lapse in federal government funding, some passengers at Miami International Airport may experience changes to their security checkpoint and departure gate this weekend.

TSA hasn't heard of any other airport planning to shut an entire concourse like the one in Miami, Bilello said.

The lawsuit, which names President Trump, the chief of the Federal Aviation Administration and other administration officials, says failure to pay controllers as scheduled or compensate them for overtime is unconstitutional because it deprives them of lawful property - namely, work they've already performed.

Assistant Administrator for Public Affairs Michael Bilello tweeted a statement Saturday "security standards remain uncompromised at our nation's airports", despite the sick calls.

TSA officers are some of the affected employees who continue to clock in, despite not getting paid. Security delays could mean missed flights for passengers.

"TSA officers are among the lowest paid federal employees, with many living paycheck-to-paycheck", Thompson wrote.

Allegheny County Airport Authority, which manages Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport, is committed to transforming Pittsburgh's airports to reflect and serve the community, inspire the industry, and advance the region's role as a world leader. Since then, hundreds of TSA workers from at least four major airports have called out sick, CNN reported.

"It's demoralizing, because you go to work, and you expect pay for hard work and you wake up and your bank account is empty", Keys said.

Of those thousands of employees, a small fraction of them work at the only commercial airport in Onslow County.

The partial shutdown of the United States government could have serious consequences for air safety, according to unions representing aviation workers, which are calling for an immediate resolution to the budgetary stalemate.
