Todd Bowles reportedly joins Bucs coaching staff after reported Bears flirtation

When Arians' hiring was announced by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, it was believed that Bowles would be joining Tampa Bay, despite no assistants or coordinators being formally announced and Bowles not signing a contract. Bowles was DC during Arians' first two seasons in Arizona.

Former Jets coach Todd Bowles will land as the new Buccaneers defensive coordinator, choosing that position and his close relationship with new Tampa coach Bruce Arians over consideration from the Chicago Bears.

Schefter went on to say Arians would be the team's next head coach.

As a middle schooler in Alabama, Winston attended a football camp ran by Arians and his son Jake.

With Bowles now out of the picture, the Bears will have to turn their attention to the other candidates. The bond between Nagy and Bowles pre-dates their coaching career, with Nagy's father once coaching Bowles at Elizabeth High School in New Jersey. Now we will see if he can work the same magic with the Bucs that he did for the first three years he coached the Cardinals.

"Ed Donatell does an incredible job on the back end there with communicating to those guys", Nagy said in November.

"He has the ability to get the most out of people, and that's what I love about him", Dungy told The Athletic Wednesday morning. He does things the right way. In 2012 they improved to No. 7 in Bowles' first season and No. 5 in his a year ago in Arizona, when he was named the NFL's top assistant prior to taking the head-coach position in NY.

"It was just kinda unusual that it happened", Bowles said in October.

Bowles' history with a 3-4 scheme would have fit the Bears, who boasted the league's top defense previous year.
