Fields informed the masses of his decision via Twitter Friday night, thanking Georgia and asking all questions be directed to the Ohio State sports information office.

Fields was 2018's No. 1 recruit in the nation. Both are expected to compete with Fields for the starting job as he will seek to be immediately eligible.

The transfer comes after Fields failed to unseat sophomore Jake Fromm as Georgia's starting quarterback. He played in 13 games this season and completed 27 of his 39 pass attempts for 328 yards and four touchdowns.

The high point for Fields this season came against UMass, when he threw for 121 yards, ran for 100 and scored three total touchdowns.

Dwayne Haskins, after tossing 50 touchdowns and finishing third in the Heisman voting in his first season as the Buckeyes' starter, announced Monday that he will forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility and declare for the 2019 National Football League draft.

Oklahoma has hired Ohio State co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Alex Grinch as defensive coordinator.

"The thing about Ryan Day, in speaking with Dwayne in terms about how Ryan Day helped his development, is the offense at Ohio State", Avery told Lettermen Row.

Many have speculated that Fields will use the remarks made by former UGA baseball player Adam Sasser as a reason to justify immediate eligibility.

Georgia opens the 2019 season against Vanderbilt on August 31.
