Kensington Palace has announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together.

The couple will also visit Bondi Beach, where they will meet a local surfing community group which raises awareness for mental health and wellbeing.

On Monday evening, hours after the couple touched down at Sydney airport, Kensington Palace shared the news of Meghan's pregnancy.

The visit to Australia is their first overseas tour since Harry, 34, married the USA television star Meghan Markle in May.

Prince Harry who served with the British Army for a decade, including included two tours of duty in Afghanistan, set up the Invictus Games after visiting the US Warrior Games in 2013, when he saw the positive impact sport was having on the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded servicemen and women.

The royal couple got married in May this year at the St George Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got a water taxi to the Opera House, where they watched a rehearsal of Spirit 2018 by the Bangarra Dance Theatre and did a public walkabout, meeting members of the public who had come out to say hello. With Meghan's darker features mixed with Harry's lighter ones, Joe predicts that a baby girl would have dark hair and brown eyes, while a boy would have lighter brown hair and blue eyes. "Wishing them all the best", she wrote.

The visit also comes six months after Harry's father Prince Charles made his 16th official visit to Australia, primarily to open the 21st Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast city in Queensland.

The royal couple will finish their tour in New Zealand, where they will attend a traditional welcome ceremony at Government House, travel to Pukeahu National War Memorial Park, and visit Pillars, a charity that mentors children of prisoners.

Meghan wore a tight-fitting cream dress by Australian designer Karen Gee that barely revealed a royal bump as they were welcomed at an event Tuesday.

Harry is known for his longstanding charitable work on behalf of children and young people.

The bookies' instant pick was Diana - the name of the late princess who was mother to both Prince Harry and his older brother Prince William - along with Arthur and Alice. It is all but mandatory for a major royal to have a charity project, and Meghan's choice addressed the biggest tragedy to befall Britain in the past years.

They have 76 engagements squeezed into 16 days.
