Mega Millions jackpot grows to $970 million

It's the second-largest lottery jackpot in USA history.

Tickets sold in New Jersey, Kentucky and MA matched the five numbers and each win a $1 million prize.

The email features the Mega Millions logo as part of the letterhead, and states that the recipient was among a group of randomly selected people to participate in an ongoing drawing.

No one hit the jackpot, which has now climbed to $430 million.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Tuesday at 11 p.m. ET, and tickets must be purchased by 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to be eligible.

The Mega Millions jackpot is displayed as a customer leaves the Corner Market, on Wed., Oct. 17, 2018, in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

Dreams of being a billionaire are now in reach, thanks to the Mega Millions.

"Ultimately, these games, they're all about the jackpots", Gordon Medenica, Maryland's lottery and gaming director, said Wednesday. Players get five numbers from 1 to 70 and one Mega number between 1 and 25.

If you want to find out if you picked some or all of the Mega Millions winning numbers this week, go to megamillions.com or lottery.net after the drawing.

Reducing the number of balls for the first five numbers increases the chances of winning a smaller prize.

Tuesday's Mega Millions winning numbers were 3, 45, 49, 61, 69 with a Mega Ball of 9 for a jackpot worth $667 million at the time. The estimated jackpot may be revised to account for higher ticket sales if officials see an uptick in activity before the next drawing, he said.
