Fox & Friends Completely Fawns Over Trump's 60 Minutes Interview: Never More Confident

U.S. President Donald Trump said he is unsure whether Defense Secretary James Mattis is planning to step down from his post, but told CBS' "60 Minutes" in a pre-taped interview that the retired general might and that he regards Mattis as "sort of a Democrat". But I don't know that it's manmade.

During a 60 Minutes interview that aired on Sunday night, Lesley Stahl didn't hold back, pressing Donald Trump about numerous issues including climate change, North Korea, his relationship with Kim Jong-un, Russia, Dr. Ford, Kavanaugh and a laundry list of other things looming over his presidency. He added: "I have a good energy with him". I will say this: I don't want to give trillions and trillions of dollars. It could be that he is. Stahl asked Trump about "the scientists who say [the effects of climate change are] worse than ever", but was unprepared to cite one; knowing, now, that the human factor will not work on Trump, a broadcaster should be prepared to cite hard facts in a faceoff with the President. He may leave. I mean, at some point, everybody leaves. "People leave. That's Washington".

Lieutenant General HR McMaster was replaced by Bolton in April, while John Kelly, the White House chief of staff and also a retired four-star general, is reported to have lost influence with the mercurial president. When Trump moved to scrap the nuclear deal with Iran, Mattis, a hardliner on Iran's "malign influence" in the region, said that elements of the deal restricting Iran's nuclear and missile programs should be preserved. This would have been a good playbook for a conservative-but-not-category-busting President Marco Rubio or Jeb Bush, perhaps; all players could say their piece, and all could go home relatively unscathed. But- you know, and in my way, I feel very comfortable here.

The next three weeks are going to be fascinating to watch as Trump changes his media game and tries to regain his ratings mojo.

"I'm not gonna get into it because we won", Trump eventually answered.

"I'm changing things around".

"But did you have to-" Stahl cut in. I think he is sort of a Democrat if you want to know the truth.

"Why did you have to make fun of her?" asked Stahl.

Lesley Stahl: I wanna read you his resume, okay?

As Defense Secretary, Mattis has avoided the expressions of loyalty to Trump sometimes voiced by other Cabinet members. "I was just saying she didn't seem to know anything and you tried to destroy the life of a man who has been extraordinary". "But General Mattis is a good guy".

Asked about Jamal Khashoggi, Trump said that if the attack was found to be a state-sponsored murder, there would be "severe punishment" for those involved, saying there is "something really awful and disgusting" about murdering a reporter - a view Trump himself said people might be surprised to hear from him.
