Local residents reported seeing the jet lose altitude as it diverted from a civilian neighborhood, according to the Kiev-based Ukrainian Independent Information Agency of News, which quoted a Ukrainian air force statement.

The authority added that all aviation involved in the Clear Sky drills, the multinational air force exercise in central Ukraine, meets all technical requirements, and the aircraft was duly examined before the flights.

Clear Sky 2018 is a joint and multinational exercise that involving approximately 950 personnel from nine nations, including Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States. "Aircraft from California units will include F-15C Eagles and a C-130J Super Hercules", said the Air Force.
