President Emmerson Mnangagwa has left for Beijing, China where he has been invited by his Chinese counterpart President Xi Jinping to attend the 7 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.

Summit will take place in Beijing on September 3 and 4 under the theme China and Africa: Towards an even stronger community with a shared future through win-win cooperation. Trade volume between China and Africa increased by 17 times between 2000 and 2017.

"Sometimes I also see such kind of allegations, that we are exploiting Africa".

The First Lady of China Professor Peng Liyuan will host a conference for first ladies on AIDS prevention and control and Amai Mnangagwa has been invited to attend the meeting.

Cooperation under the initiative, which certainly goes beyond infrastructure, is expected to be a major topic of the upcoming FOCAC summit.

This year's summit seeks to build a stronger community with a shared future between China and Africa which will yield important outcomes including the connection of the Belt and Road Initiative with Agenda 2063 of the African Union and the United Nations 2030 Agenda on sustainable development.

President George Weah and a high-level delegation are already in China. The first summit was held in November 2006 in Beijing, PRC.

Cooperation between the Asian country and African countries will focus on industrial development, infrastructure, trade and investment, human resources development, science education, culture, health, environmental protection as well as peace and security.

Every African country is represented at the business forum apart from eSwatini, self-ruled Taiwan's last African ally that has so far rejected China's overtures to ditch Taipei and recognise Beijing. "More than 2,400 Kenyan students are now studying in China".

"Established 18 years ago, FOCAC has led worldwide cooperation with Africa and has become a significant marker of South-South cooperation", said Li Dan, director of Africa Studies Center of China Foreign Affairs University. The focus will be on political and economic cooperation, social development cooperation, cultural and people exchanges, peace and security, and global cooperation. Since 2009, China has become Africa's leading trading partner.

As part of efforts to grow Nigeria's Information and Communication Technology sector, the Export-Import Bank of China will provide a loan of $328 million to support the country.
