The New 'DOOM' Game Looks Ridiculously Brutal

We already knew Doom Eternal was set to have twice as many demon types as Doom 2016, but you can't really appreciate that kind of abstract detail until you see so many of them shrieking towards the screen in a single setting.

The game developers spoke about lore and building up the game world, but if we're being honest this sounds like thin window dressing indeed.

Immediately following the Rage 2 trailer, Doom Eternal's E3 2018 trailer was played, nicely segueing into the Doom Eternal's gameplay debut, with an introduction from director Marty Stratton and Creative director, Hugo Martin. Given the PC can hit much higher frame rates we're betting the new Doom will hit 60FPS on PS4 and Xbox One, and maybe even the Switch (while docked). The Doom Slayer himself has also gotten a makeover for his armor.

Sadly, no release for Doom Eternal was announced during the conference so it'd appear it's likely going to be a late 2019 release but that is, of course, just speculation.

At this point, there is still no official release window for DOOM Eternal.

"We're not making a new Doom game any more". However, in Eternal players can actually team up and invade other players as a group of demons. It's a gameplay driven game and Doom Eternal looks to be the same. You can turn this setting off, though, if you just want to beat up some AI characters. Several guns have a "meat hook" at the end, for gruesome close range combat. This includes the Pain Elemental, Archvile and Arachnotron from previous Doom titles, while new enemies include the Doom Hunter and corrupted Marauders. As a brand new feature, players will be able to invade other player worlds as a demon to try and slay them. Witness the tumbling skyscrapers of Hell on Earth; battle through an invasion of the mammoth BFG 10,000 on Phobos; and discover the ancient secrets of the DOOM universe.
