OSU President: Urban Meyer Probe "Will Be Finished When It's Finished"

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State University announced the investigation involving Head Coach Urban Meyer will be completed Sunday.

The school's Board of Trustees appointed an independent group to investigate how Meyer, one of the highest-paid coaches in college football, treated allegations of abuse by the wife of former Ohio State assistant football coach Zach Smith.

Courtney Smith has contended she believed Urban Meyer knew all along about the allegations she made regarding abuse from Zach.

Between those details and what Smith's ex-wife Courtney has alleged about his assaults against her, many will wonder what Meyer was doing having him on staff for so long.

Meyer is now on paid administrative leave. But given we're two weeks and a day from Ohio State's season-opener against Oregon State, the Buckeyes football program felt compelled to break the silence. "However, I was not adequately prepared to discuss these sensitive personnel issues with the media, and I apologize for the way I handled those questions". A report will then be prepared by the independent working group conducting the investigation prior to its findings being shared with the Board of Trustees during an executive session next week.

Meyer is now on paid administrative leave while the investigation is on-going.

Public notice of the meeting will be released at least 24 hours before, in accordance with the law. Following deliberations with the board, and appropriate time for consideration, President Michael V. Drake will announce his decision.

It's unclear what those penalties could include.

"I think he's pretty close", Finebaum said. Ryan Day is serving as acting head coach in Meyer's absence.

The Urban Meyer saga will drag into next week.

Smith, who served as the wide receivers coach for years, was sacked last month amid domestic abuse allegations. He pleaded not guilty.

The school placed Meyer on paid administrative leave on August 1 after it was reported that he knew of former assistant Zach Smith's alleged abuse of his now ex-wife, Courtney. It is also not the only time Smith took vulgar pics. Would I nominate him for a good citizen award? No.
