The Portuguese has been increasingly outspoken and irritated by a variety of matters on the club's pre-season tour of the United States, with transfers one of his main complaints.

United have made three signings this summer, with Mourinho wanting a further two before the August 9 transfer deadline, but fearing he may only manage one - a grim scenario with his squad already severely depleted.

Asked if he was confident he would get both, ...

"I am confident I will get one, but I think two I am not going to get - which is not a drama", Mourinho told beIN Sports. I think in every pre-season it happens basically the same with probably every club, which the manager wants more.

"It's our nature, it's our way of being - you always want more for your team".

The Red Devils boss is targeting Leicester's Harry Maguire, as well as Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic and Chelsea's Willian.

The United boss questioned why Martial, who wants to leave, had not returned to the USA following the birth of his son and suggested Valencia had come back to preseason training out of shape before suffering a calf injury and going home. He has looked too cautious at times, and has been very hesitant to go into tackles.

Thus far he has bought three players including Brazilian worldwide Fred, but Mourinho is keen to have two new faces in the squad come the opening match with Leicester on Friday week.

Mourinho's position was in stark contrast to England manager Gareth Southgate's much-praised decision to allow Fabian Delph to leave the World Cup finals to be with his wife at the birth of their child.

Mourinho is still without a number of players, who reached the latter stages in Russian Federation, and made clear his preference that they cut their breaks early to aid preparations for the season opener against Leicester on August 10.

Despite Saturday's game drawing over 100,000 people to watch United and Liverpool on Saturday, Mourinho said he wouldn't have paid to watch his team in action and bemoaned the lack of big names on show in the US this summer. "I'm not a big fan of one player starting the season with one club and then a couple of weeks later the window is open, he moves to another club and he plays against his former club - I really don't like that".

"I agree totally with the window closing at the same time as the Premier League starts".

"First of all, I have to respect what my manager said, because he knows what he's talking about", said Herrera.

After finishing second - but 19 points behind the champions - in the Premier League, there is pressure on United to challenge Manchester City this season.
