New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has admitted that he was cautioned by Pep Guardiola over the standard of football in the Premier League.

"We want him to stay but he does not have a work permit yet so we will try to convince the federation to allow him to stay", the City manager said. Being here I feel we are going to improve a lot [because of] his ideas in England. The Italian coach only arrived at the club three weeks ago, yet judging from the Blues' pre-season performances, it seems the players at his disposal have taken his footballing philosophy to heart.

"I want players who want to come here".

While the Community Shield may be dismissed by some as little more than a glamorised pre-season friendly, Sarri is not adopting that attitude before Sunday's fixture.

He netted 17 goals as City won the Premier League and the Carabao Cup last term. Antonio [Conte] was, Maurizio will be too.

"Yes, we were close, but in the end Jorginho made a decision to stay with Sarri", Guardiola said. He is perfectly suited to the style of football that Guardiola has instilled at City, so it should come as no surprise that City have secured his long term future at the Etihad.

And France World Cup winners N'Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud, Belgium trio Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Michy Batshuayi, plus England's Gary Cahill, are yet to return following the World Cup.

Reportedly due to a passport issue, the 29-year-old couldn't enter the country and earlier in the week, Sarri had stated that he wasn't impressed with his player's tardiness.

"The Premier League is the most competitive of Europe's top leagues".

"I want to win, because it's very important to have a trophy immediately".

The former Wigan Athletic ace who converted a penalty for the Super Eagles at the World cup in Russian Federation is being tipped to lift the Blues even as new coach Maurizio Sarri is hoping to win a title even before his first season at the Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been urged to smile more by one of the club's former players.
