Courtois had a year remaining on his Chelsea deal and did not report for training with the Blues this week.

Chelsea shattered the world-record fee for a goalkeeper with an 80-million euro swoop for Athletic Bilbao's Kepa Arrizabalaga on Wednesday as the Premier League transfer window prepared to slam shut.

Courtois' actions are set to lead to success and, according to Spanish TV programme El Larguero, Real Madrid are to officially seal the signing of the goalkeeper later this week.

The Spaniard's move came just weeks after Liverpool broke the record in a 72.5-million-euro move for Brazilian global Alisson Becker from Roma.

That paved the way for Kepa to complete his switch to Chelsea and the Blues made an announcement on Chelseafc.com late on Wednesday night that the 23-year-old has joined the club on a seven-year contract.

Courtois went AWOL at Chelsea in a desperate attempt to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Additionally, Chelsea now reportedly rid themselves of the pain in the side that would have been Thibaut Courtois should he have had to play in London this season.

Kepa earning more than £190K-a-week at Chelsea is the true reflection of our desperation, rather than the transfer fee we paid for him. I'm really happy to be here and looking forward to joining them.

"In terms of being the most expensive keeper in the world, it's something I don't think about", Kepa said. I was only 19 years old when the club showed a great belief in my abilities.

"There won't be additional pressure one me".

He wrote: "No permanent option in Kovacic deal, so Chelsea are just developing players for Real Madrid while Loftus-Cheek and co sit on the sidelines". "I've improved a lot and I've come here to be the best I can".

"I hope they remember me fondly, and I wish them all the best".

"They have told me what it's like to play here and I've had excellent references from them".
