Spock and the Enterprise Confirmed for 'Star Trek: Discovery' Season 2

Check out the Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 trailer below.

Here it is! First shown today during the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY panel at San Diego Comic Con, CBS has released a brand new teaser trailer for the series' second season, which is slated to premiere in early 2019. Rainn Wilson will return to play Harry Mudd in a short he will also direct, and Aldis Hodge will star in another as Craft, "a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship".

Season one ended with Discovery coming across the USS Enterprise so season two will pick up with this iconic moment and steer us into the heart of season two. Since the Season 1 finale, Marvel's Inhumans actor Anson Mount will be playing Pike, who will play an important role during Season 2.

There definitely is something of a Star Trek: Into Darkness vibe about Discovery, and Into Darkness was another homage to the original that still found its own way to navigate. One will feature Saru's backstory.

Spock actually isn't the only well-known Star Trek character that will pop up in Discovery come season 2.

Rebecca Romijn has been cast as Number One, a role played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry in "The Cage".

Apparently, Spock-who has conveniently taken a leave of absence from the Enterprise so neither we nor Burnham can see him-is connected to a major new cosmic threat, with unusual anomalies popping up throughout Federation space, necessitating an urgent response from the Enterpriseand now the Discovery, which Captain Pike wants to take command of. However, the new trailer certainly looks like the show has not missed a beat. But for me and based on what I heard about the first season, there's not enough here to be like, "Yes, I must pony up for a CBS All Access subscription to watch this excellent TV show".
