The iPhones we see later this year may come in a variety of colors in one of the biggest departures from Apple's normal color range we've ever seen.

Trusted Apple Insider Ming-Chi Kuo has released a report today which confirms that Apple might be planning to launch the new iPhones in multiple colours. If true, it would be the first expansion of color options since the iPhone 5C launched in 2013.

Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty stated a cheaper iPhone, which will feature an LCD screen, will sell for between $699 and $769. Kuo is a reliable source on these sorts of things, but Apple hasn't introduced colored iPhones beyond the base model 5cs, so it would be an interesting (though very welcome) move on the tech giant's part. It's unclear if the 5.8-inch version, most similar to the current generation iPhone X, will also come with the new color option, or stick to the black and white variants. The grey and white color options for the LCD iPhone are likely referring to space grey and silver. Apple is also turning its back on 3D Touch, a stainless steel frame, and a dual-camera system in that version, according to the report. Meanwhile, a larger and more high-end 6.5-inch iPhone may be offered in black, white and gold, as reported by 9to5Mac.

Some iPod models were available in as many as nine different colors. An unnamed industry official said that "initially, Apple will get between 3 million and 5 million OLED displays from LG Display".

Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhones in September.
