Spurs and Lakers believe Kawhi Leonard trade clinches LeBron to LA

Kawhi Leonard #2 of the San Antonio Spurs shoots a free throw during the game against the Golden State Warriors during Game One of the Western Conference Finals of the 2017 NBA Playoffs on May 14, 2017 at ORACLE Arena in Oakland, California.

Lakers president Magic Johnson said earlier this week that if he can't deliver superstars via trades or the free agent market within two years, he will step down. They will trade him to the team that gives them the best package in return.

The Lakers want a deal done ASAP because adding Kawhi could be what ultimately makes LeBron James decide to leave Cleveland (I don't think it's 100% guaranteed at this point). The Philadelphia 76ers have recognized the Spurs' and L.A. Lakers' urgency to complete a deal, sources say.

Is the aforementioned package enough to attract the Spurs? This appeared throughout the second half once the Spurs shut him down in January. It seems, however, that the Lakers are willing to part with more than the Celtics.at least for now.

They have several players on one-year deals that they could move, including Kenneth Faried ($13.7 million), Wilson Chandler ($12.8 million), and Darrell Arthur ($7.4 million).

Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe (h/t Rob Lopez of Def Pen Hoops), Parker's comments about his quad injury being significantly worse than Leonard's was the "last straw" for the two-time All-Star.

Any trade for Leonard would likely require a huge haul.

When he requested for a trade, Leonard said that his preferred destination is the Los Angeles Lakers.

Without assurances that Leonard would sign a long-term extension, however, it's unlikely the Celtics would want to sacrifice the normal asking price for a top-five player and MVP candidate like Leonard. The Nets should not take the chance of possibly trading away their bright future for Leonard. But there have been a few National Basketball Association rumors and predictions hinting at possible new destinations for the New Orleans Pelicans big man, and even with his recent ACL injury in mind, a number of teams appear to be interested in acquiring his services. This report would indicate they're attempting to make a big splash right now.
