Kim summit: Excitement high ahead of historic meeting

The White House said preparatory negotiations had "moved more quickly than expected" and Donald Trump would leave on Tuesday evening after his talks with Kim Jong-un, ruling out the possibility the unprecedented tete-a-tete would run to two days.

"The president is fully prepared for the meeting", Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in previewing the first summit between a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader.

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has arrived in Singapore, hours before President Donald Trump is set to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for the first time.

"The ultimate objective we seek from diplomacy with North Korea has not changed: The complete and verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula is the only outcome that the United States will accept", Pompeo insisted.

11:30 pm (03:30 GMT): Trump and Kim have a working lunch and are joined by Sarah Sanders, Sung Kim & Matt Pottinger.

Perry says he's hopeful the two leaders will discuss normalization of ties as well as denuclearization to improve the prospect for long-term success of any deal.

He has also convinced the North Korean people that nuclear weapons are their only savior from an invasion by the U.S. But Kim, who was educated in Switzerland, has also promised to transform North Korea's economy and the lives of its people.

On why he thinks it is a win-win for Kim Jong Un: Look he's been able to do something neither his father nor grandfather could do which is get a sit down with the President of the United States.

Trump said Tuesday after meeting Kim that he's feeling "really great".

Prior to the first scheduled meeting, Kim spent time getting a nighttime tour of Singapore while President Trump stayed at his hotel, about a mile and a half away from the lodgings for the North Korean delegation, according to the AP.

After, a bilateral meeting will take place.

He expressed hope that Trump and Kim would be able to make progress.

According to analysts, North Korea can demand the USA that the latter remove its nuclear weapons from the former's region.
