James Harden: Houston Rockets guard named Most Valuable Player at NBA Awards

Harden is only the second player in National Basketball Association history to win the MVP and Sixth Man of the Year awards in their career (Bill Walton was the other).

The Rockets ended the regular season with the best record in the National Basketball Association, finishing seven games clear of the Warriors, who went on to win the title. The first honor for the Rockets from the award show actually went to general manager Daryl Morey, who was named NBA Executive of the Year. However, Houston was defeated by Golden State in the Western Conference finals. He led the league in scoring, 3-pointers and 50-point games with four while helping the Rockets to an NBA-leading 65 wins.

Harden joined Michael Jordan as the only players to average at least 30 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and 1.7 steals.

Houston's James Harden took home the big daddy of all trophies when he was named the league's MVP.

Harden becomes the third ever Rocket to claim the award following Moses Malone (1979 and 1982) and Hakeem Olajuwon (1994). James finished second with 738 points and 15 first-place votes, while Davis was third with 445 points and no first-place votes. Usually, the knock on Harden was his defense, but in the switching scheme the Rockets employed all season he held his own.

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert won the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award, beating out Anthony Davis of the Pelicans and Joel Embiid of the 76ers.

"I want to thank the Clippers organization for giving me an opportunity to be myself", Williams said.

Dwane Casey earned Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Raptors to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference. Casey won over Quin Snyder of Utah and Brad Stevens of Boston. Robertson is the career leader in triple-doubles and was the first player to average one for a season.
