Rayudu returns to ODI squad for series against England

India A will be playing against England A and West Indies A in the ODI tri-series.

Ajinkya Rahane, in a recent interview to Sporstar, had expressed his desire to play a leading role in India's campaign at the 2019 ICC World Cup. We don't want to be one-dimensional.

Squad for T20I series vs Ireland & England: Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (WK), Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Siddharth Kaul, Umesh Yadav.

After a forgettable ODI series against South Africa and a lackluster IPL so far, Ajinkya Rahane has been dropped from the ODI side. Other than him, we have Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey. In the West Indies last summer, he was Man of the Series in India's 3-1 series win after telling 335 runs in five innings at an average of 67.20 and strike-rate of 77.06 - all while opening the innings. During the first ODI in Durban, he was involved in a match-winning partnership with Kohli.

India batsman Ambati Rayudu. Rayudu has no proven record in English conditions and didn't even have an exceptional record in the domestic one-day tournaments in the last two years.

The selectors' decision to drop Rahane possibly was a result of the right-hander's poor run with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 where he hasn't been in the best of form. Agarwal is having a bad IPL though. Could be. Or is it as Kohli had said in Durban: All options still open?

Rahane has also been in and out of the Indian team which actually has taken a big hit to his confidence.

India "A" team for four-dayers: Karun Nair (Captain), R Samarth, Mayank Agarwal, AR Easwaran, Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari, Ankit Bawne, Vijay Shankar, KS Bharat (WK), Jayant Yadav, Shahbaz Nadeem, Ankit Rajpoot, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Rajneesh Gurbani. Rahane did play the third Test of the South Africa series but by then India was 2-0 down.

Following the revealing of India's ODI and T20I squads to play in Ireland and England next month as a blockbuster summer gets underway, here's a look at some players who could consider themselves unlucky to not be picked.

Virat Kohli has been named the captain for both the squads, but remains a doubtful starter for the Ireland T20I as he is scheduled to play for county side Surrey against Yorkshire from June 25 to 28.
