There are reports of many people still missing and a possibility that the death toll could increase.

Kabazi MCA Peter Mbae told the Nation that more than 20 families had been evacuated to safe grounds.

After a night of heavy rain, a dam in Kenya burst on Wednesday sweeping away hundreds of homes and causing "huge destruction".

"The county has dispatched ambulances to the scene to aid in evacuation of victims", he said. "The extent of the damage has yet to be ascertained", Lee Kinyanjui, the governor of Nakuru, said in a statement.
