Jared Kusner Regains White House Security Clearance

Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump and his son-in-law, has had his security clearance restored, allowing him access to classified information after losing the privilege in the fallout over a fired White House aide, his lawyer said on Wednesday.

Career officials approved the clearance following the background check, the newspaper reported.

Abbe Lowell, an attorney for Kushner, confirmed his client had now completed the security clearance process.

He said his client was "looking forward to continuing to do the work the president has asked him to do".

Kushner had been operating with an interim clearance up until now.

That policy was ended in February by the White House.

The granting of the security clearance suggests that investigators' scrutiny of Kushner has decreased significantly.

The special counsel's questioning focused on Kushner's work with Trump and did not include topics such as Kushner's personal finances or those of his family business, Kushner Companies, according to the person.

Mr Kushner, who serves as Mr Trump's adviser on the Middle East, had his access downgraded in February pending the completion of background checks.

The second interview occurred in April and concerned potential influence by foreign governments, including Russian Federation, and the firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, among other topics, Lowell said on CNN.

"In each occasion, he answered all questions asked and did whatever he could to expedite the conclusion of all the investigation", Lowell said.

White House officials have blamed the delay in Kushner receiving his security clearance on administrative backlogs normal to a new administration, as well as the complicated nature of his application.

Whether the restoration of Kushner's clearance is somehow related to his cooperation with Mueller is not immediately clear.

Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, attended a meeting at Trump Tower in June 2016 with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, Donald Trump Jr., and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
