Kim Jong-un's envoy has arrived in NY to try and reinstate plans to hold a summit between Donald Trump and his own country's leader.

Pompeo is scheduled to make a two-day trip to NY through Thursday to meet with the right-hand man of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, according to State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert.

The White House said on Wednesday that negotiations at the demilitarized zone along the border between North and South Korea for the summit were going well and that it expects the historic meeting to take place on June 12.

Asked whether the Kim-Trump summit will still be held on June 12 in Singapore, Nauert said, "That is what we're planning for", and, like the White House, affirmed that Washington will "certainly be prepared" even if for some reason it "takes place at a later date". The senior North Korean's visit marks the highest-level official visit to the United States in 18 years.

Washington wants North Korea to quickly give up all its nuclear weapons in a verifiable way in return for sanctions and economic relief.

General Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of the central committee of the Workers' Party and right-hand man to Kim, is also in NY, officials said.

North Korea's mission to the United Nations in NY is its sole diplomatic presence in the United States.

"Looking forward to meeting with Kim Yong Chol in NY to discuss @Potus potential summit with Chairman Kim".

Kim held two meetings with Xi in March and May in China and two others with South Korean President Moon Jae In in Panmunjeom in April and May.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders confirmed the leaders still planned to meet next month.

But Trump later said he was reconsidering his position and U.S., North Korean and South Korean officials have gone ahead with summit preparations.

He invited Clinton to North Korea, but the visit never happened.

USA and North Korean officials met for three hours on Sunday to push ahead with arrangements despite uncertainty surrounding the potential summit between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore. Meetings are now taking place concerning Summit, and more.

Early Tuesday the president tweeted that he had received a "solid response" from representatives of North Korea following his letter cancelling the June summit.

Their talks with North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui at the Tongilgak building on the northern side of Panmunjom kicked off Sunday.

South Korean Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon meets European Union envoys in Seoul, May 30, 2018, to brief them on South Korea's summits with North Korea and the prospects of a U.S.

North Korea denied any involvement in either incident.

Pompeo has been an advocate for a Trump-Kim meeting, convinced after his two encounters with the North Korean leader that the regime was genuinely ready to consider dismantling its nuclear program.
