Coming soon to the popular tool is an augmented reality (AR) Street View mode, personalized recommendations, and more.

According to Google, Maps is becoming more assistive and personal, allowing even better discovery or not just food, but activities you may want to check out around you. Assistant will also be able to build upon all of its new features within Maps as well. While exploring the places to visit with friends, you can long press on the place and add it to a shareable shortlist. Perhaps that will lead to your group discovering a new place that you may enjoy together.

It's these match scores that are the most interesting, since it's basically Google's own algorithms telling you how it thinks you'll like a particular place. The company also did not divulge if all new features are coming to both Android and iOS, but it's safe to assume that they are heading to the app for iPhones and iPads due to the advanced augmented reality technologies of Apple's devices. First is "For You", which will automatically show you information about places in the areas that are important to you, things such as new businesses, restaurants that are trending, or recommendations of things to do that match your preferences. This way it would be harder to misinterpret the directions the app is giving users because every turn they make will be guided by AR navigation signs and symbols. Following the release of AR direction, a user simply needs to hold their phone up and Google Maps will match the view from their camera to the saved Street View imagery.

Based on your preferences, Google Maps will clue you in on new openings, pop-ups from your favorite chefs, or keep you up to date on restaurants building some buzz in neighborhoods or cities you choose to follow.

Be on the lookout for these changes in the coming months.

If that wasn't enough, a new "For You" tab will let you know about all of the exciting culinary adventures taking place in your 'hood.
