Aguilera was one of the original coaches who served since the first season of The Voice.

Despite her unhappiness, the singer says she stayed on the show because she was comfortable, and for the sake of her kids - 10-year-old son Max and 3-year-old daughter Summer. "To me, the purest of reason is to get back to that little girl who just wants to be inspired again by truth and by that sense of passion for music and singing and just feeling free and alive again", Aguilera says before explaining the reason behind her six-year absence from releasing solo material. Outside of, you know, his controversial aspects, I just think he's a great artist and music maker and beatmaker. It's about making good TV moments and massaging a narrative. I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing or makeup or hair.

"I didn't get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these [rules]", Christina told the publication. The song talks of a hook-up, which is not so different to her previous lead singles except for "Ain't No Other Man", but this time the lyrics are slightly more subtle. "I've been placing myself on the again burner". When you strip back the words "pop star" and the many things that I've done, singing soulfully is where my core, my root and my heart really is. "It was my only kind of outlet", she said.

During the interview, Aguilera also describes how her new album is influenced by hip-hop and R&B. "Anything like that to get me out of that zone, that TV mode", she said. This marks her first album since 2012's "Lotus".

The track - which was produced by Kanye West, FYI - features Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz and has a definite Rihanna vibe to our ears - which isn't going down well with some people.

Billboard said Aguilera is as excited as she has been about her career for years, and is looking into possibly recording a Latin album, acting in more movies and perhaps a Broadway stint.
