Last week, more than a dozen protesters were killed and hundreds injured by Israeli fire, Gaza health officials said.

Palestinian media reported that a tank had fired shells at the men.

"Following the earlier report regarding the suspects who infiltrated [into] Israel through the security fence near the Northern Gaza Strip, IDF troops located two explosive devices placed by the terrorists at the scene", an Israel Defense Forces statement said. The violent demonstrations have also featured firebomb attacks and the use of burning tires to block Israeli security personnel. The targeted Israeli was unhurt.

It is unclear if there were any casualties among the Palestinians.

Thousands of people took part in a march of solidarity with the residents of the Gaza Strip in the Israeli Arab city of Sakhnin in the Lower Galilee over the weekend.

Reporters Without Borders on Saturday slammed the Israeli army for the deliberate shooting of journalists in Gaza after a week of bloodshed by the border. The EU said on Saturday the violence "raises serious questions about the proportionate use of force which must be addressed".
