Turkey will deliver Afrin to its true owners, says Erdoğan

The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters are now only five kilometers away from the Afrin city center, as Turkey's Operation Olive Branch enters its 50th day.

On Jan. 20, Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch to clear YPG/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin.

"The images of people celebrating the arrival of Turkish soldiers in Afrin says everything, although western media is trying to portray Turkey's presence in Afrin differently", Tasli added.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party's sixth provincial congress in Turkey's Mersin on Saturday, Yeni Safak reports.

Several people in Germany were left injured after police used pepper spray against some demonstrators opposed to Turkey's ongoing military operation "Olive Branch" against the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in Syria's Afrin region. He also vowed to sweep away Kurdish fighters from the length of the border. AP reported Erdogan accused the alliance of double standards.

Managing alliances in Syria has always been a struggle for the USA, as underscored by how often two US-armed allies end up directly fighting one another. Erdogan said in remarks to supporters in Bolu, a city east of Istanbul. Unfortunately, until now, there has not been a positive word or voice. "Are we not a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member?" NATO, Turkey is not a NATO country?

Turkey's objective has put it in direct contrast to U.S.'s objective of building a force to stabilize the region.

The military intervention came after the U.S. said it would set up a 30,000-strong militant border force at Turkish doorstep. Because of possible links with the PKK, Turkey has categorized Syria's Kurdhish militia as a "terrorist organization" and vows to act accordingly against it.

The Syrian regime has chosen to ally itself with the Kurdish YPG in its fight against Turkey in Afrin, despite being at odds elsewhere in Syria.

However, it remains to be seen if the US allows Turkey to continue with its offensive or intervenes to protect the force that is vital to maintaining control of huge swathes of ungoverned Syria.

The Turkish leader also reiterated his earlier statements, that his only goal in Syria was the "fight against terrorism".
