Sonic Mania Plus announced alongside tease for new Sonic racing game

Sonic Mania (AKA the best Sonic game in the last 20 years) is getting an epic physical release.

Sonic Mania Plus will come with a special holographic box, will include a retro reversible cover and a 32-page artbook.

Sonic Mania is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Sonic Manis Plus is due out for a Summer 2018 release.

The Sonic brand has had a weird love affair with animated TV series, seeing highs and lows for decades now, from the meme-riffic original show to the woefully "edgy" Sonic Underground.

Plus will be a free upgrade for people who have the game already, and it will also be released at retail.

The fact that the obscured word in the teaser logo is clearly "racing", makes this a no-brainer.

Also coming to Sonic Mania Plus are two new playable characters, namely Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. This isn't merely a packaged version of the same game, though; SEGA says it'll be updated and bring new goodies with it. Both debuted in the 1993 isometric arcade spin-off, SegaSonic the Hedgehog, and most recently had a cameo in Sonic Generations.

In addition to the announcement of Sonic Mania Plus, Sega launched a teaser that can be viewed through the official Twitter account of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Unfortunately, not much else was revealed about the upcoming title.
