At this rate, free agency will be a letdown compared to the prequel.

In a wild, dizzying day for the franchise and its embattled fan base, the Browns added to their recent trade acquisitions by landing Green Bay Packers cornerback Damarious Randall.

In truth, Kizer's days appeared numbered in Cleveland as the team was expected to target a veteran in free agency - before getting Taylor, that is - and the Browns will likely use the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft on a QB. Regardless, he voiced his opinions when the defense struggled through yet another season.

In early 2017, Randall was summarily benched for poor play and an apparent negative attitude with the coaching staff.

"You're talking about words of frustration", McCarthy remarked.

The third-year corner had good reason to be frustrated.

DeShone Kizer was a second round pick for the Browns and started 15 games last season.

Having sent their former first-round cornerback to the new-look Browns, the Packers welcome a quarterback of similar draft pedigree. His first game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers was not the debut he was hoping for. The former Notre Dame quarterback started 15 games as a rookie with the Browns, but he apparently has been identified by new G.M. John Dorsey as a player who needed to go - possibly due in part to the 28 turnovers he generated past year. He's due to have his fifth-year option picked up or declined this summer, so it's a crucial time in Randall's career, but it's clear that the Browns want him.

Randall had 10 interceptions in his first threes season in Green Bay.

Packers backup quarterback Brett Hundley ranked 30th in the league. Hundley was ill-prepared for the rigors of the National Football League regular season despite three years of development.

Kizer is also a considerably better passer from the pocket than Brett Hundley.

While Hundley enters a contract year and may not be a lock to return altogether, Kizer gets the chance to learn under Rodgers and coach Mike McCarthy.
