Amazon promises to fix Alexa after reports of random "creepy" laughter

Retail goliath Amazon has promised to fix its virtual assistant Alexa after reports the device was randomly laughing at people.

One user recorded the sound by asking Alexa to "replay the sound" as you can hear in the video the laughter is quite eerie.

Amazon is working on a fix after users reported Alexa-enabled devices giggling out of nowhere or after being asked to do something else, CNBC reported.

Amazon says it is working on a solution to the problem.

But some users reported that the laughter occurred without Alexa being prompted to wake.

February 26, 2018Having an office conversation about pretty confidential stuff and Alexa just laughed. Amazon, if the machines have taken you hostage, send us a sign. "After the third request, Alexa stopped responding and instead did an evil laugh".

And people think Amazon Alexa's laugh is creepy... It's fixed now, according to Mashable, and you'll have to say, "Alexa, can you laugh" to get a chuckle from your Echo.

Another change, as to not scare users if Alexa laughs again, is to change the device's response in the case of a false positive. I thought a kid was laughing behind me. And then i realized it was listing off local cemeteries and funeral homes??? The reason that Alexa is laughing is more than a little creepy.

The Seattle-headquartered company on Wednesday confirmed the unusual error which made Alexa to hear the phrase "Alexa, laugh" in rare circumstances.

Of course, when voice assistants start acting on their own, it also raises concerns about what artificial intelligence might be capable of.
