If you ask Amazon's Alexa digital assistant a question right now, you may not get an answer.

The virtual assistant has also been making predictions ahead of this year's ceremony, and also has Alexa Skills available - which can be used to discuss the awards or take part in trivia quizzes on the event. By doing so, it would be able to instantly serve up a useful, accurate translation for a person from the U.S. who only speaks English and is attending a wedding in Tokyo. DownDetector.com is also reporting with Alexa.

Amazon's Ambition to turn Alexa into a real-time translator seems to be taking a page from Google Assistant.

Considering the Super Bowl commercial, which showed famous celebrities like Rebel Wilson and Cardi B providing the responses to users' Alexa queries, the day's issues were tinged with a bit of humor.

Alexa is already capable of translating words and short phrases between several languages. Context and cultural awareness is something that's still missing. The chip is expected to power Alexa's artificial intelligence features, and may be a component for whenever the real-time language translation service will be rolled out. Samsung's Bixby voice assistant on its Galaxy phones is already capable of basic translations, while Bragi also created wireless earphones past year that featured real-time translation.

According to the report, Amazon's team never pointed fingers at company CEO Jeff Bezos, but Nest employees reportedly ended the call under the impression that the decision came from Bezos.

There are other devices and services that offer early versions of real-time translation, such as the Google Pixel Buds.
