Purdue lost for the first time at home to the Ohio State Buckeyes earlier this week.

After falling victim to a banked-in 3-pointer earlier this season in its lone conference loss vs. Penn State, OSU was on the fortunate end against Purdue when Andre Wesson's wayward triple inside the final two minutes went off the glass and in the net. It hasn't been the best though.

After a 3-pointer at Iowa on Tuesday helped the Spartans rally, it was his jumper near the free-throw line with 46 seconds to play that tied the game at 65. An outright Big Ten crown seems like a long shot. The difference though is that the Boilermakers game against the Buckeyes was an instant classic.

This game was a war throughout, but the Spartans likely wouldn't have won this game without the play of these three guys. They barely escaped Rutgers with an overtime victory and then fell to their instate rival, MI in a 10-point loss. The Spartans start four sophomores and a freshman.

Miles Bridges would have been a lottery pick had he left for the National Basketball Association after his freshman season. He's a player of the year candidate in both the Big Ten and the country.

Purdue led by 14 midway through second half and was on the verge of running away with the game.

They also saw sloppy and careless play on offense that directly led to Ohio State points. The Buckeyes handled the turnaround from that win well, beating Maryland 91-69 at home after beating the Spartans. If you have that five out on the court, that's the guy you want shooting it. It has been outrebounded in seven consecutive games. He also grabbed three rebounds. Cost them sole possession of first place in the Big Ten Conference. No way Purdue wins without shooting well from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Cassius Winston has been a much more complete player for the Spartans this year compared to last.

Bridges finished with a team-high 20 points. Iowa scores well, averaging 80.7 per game. But point guard P.J. Thompson kept it in perspective.

Virginia Tech: The Hokies are a very unsafe team when they are making shots, and that's pretty often.

Michigan State's 24-3 overall record matches the 24-3 start by the 2000-01 team for the best start to a season in the Tom Izzo era. Starting forward Kaleb Wesson was in foul trouble all night and played only 12 minutes. Schilling gave everything he had guarding Purdue big man Isaac Haas and Goins frustrated Vince Edwards all night. The senior is a hard to stop if he catches the ball on the blocks, and he's adept at passing out of double-teams.

Iowa travels to No. 20 MI at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT Wednesday. No double teams, just one-on-one.

This season, barring a late-season collapse, the RPI could be one of the Buckeyes' biggest assets. Purdue is a team that is peaking at the right time. Ryan Cline is their wing man off the bench who has knocked down 32 three-pointers this season. Then there's back-up point guard Lourawls Nairn who averages 3.5 assists per game.

Winning one out of the two games this week is critical for Purdue's hopes of being a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. "I think that's a staple with his teams".

The Boilermakers and Spartans play only once in the regular season. I still kind of am, but Purdue is giving me every reason to believe that two Big Ten teams are capable of making it to San Antonio.

For as good as these teams are, both come stumbling into this key matchup. They have a nice balance of upper and underclassmen.
