United must part with Mkhitaryan if it must sign Sanchez - Wenger

Manchester United are expected to announce the signing of Sanchez from Arsenal today after the 29-year-old underwent a medical at Carrington yesterday.

Sanchez, who was previously thought to be nailed-on for a Manchester City move, is now set to join Manchester United with Henrikh Mkhitaryan headed in the opposite direction.

Arsene Wenger has suggested that Alexis Sanchez is on his way to Manchester United for his last major pay day, which Arsenal were unable to give him.

City, funded by the Abu Dhabi United Group since their 2008 takeover, had easily the highest net transfer spend in the 2016 fiscal year at €199m, a UEFA report revealed this week.

Sanchez had trained with Arsenal's first team as usual on Friday and Wenger had said he could be involved against Palace should a move to United not be completed beforehand. "I think that also gets through to the player", added the Chilean goal-scoring machine.

Asked about a swap deal, Arsenal boss Wenger said: "It happens only one way, if the other way happens as well".

It was claimed the two clubs had chose to divide the deals to work on them separately, with Sanchez moving to Old Trafford for a fee in the region of £35 million.

"The chance to play in this historic stadium (Old Trafford) and to work with (United manager) Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down".

"We have tried to find the best possible solution and the best possible solution is that we lose a world class player - I don't deny that at all - but we did not lose him without getting somebody after".

"I really like to play down the left, through the middle but to tell you the truth, as long as I'm playing football, I'll fit in anywhere".

According to The Mirror, however, certain United players - including £89m midfielder Pogba - are already unsettled and are demanding a wage increase. It is also understood that the Gunners are finalising a £53 million deal for Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has 21 goals in 24 games this season.
