The Colley Matrix, which was one of the six computer formulas used in the BCS, instead ended the season with undefeated UCF as the No. 1 team.

"With an undefeated record and a win over a top-10 team in the Peach Bowl, we were left no other choice but to name them national champs", Richard Ingram, President of Womack Publishing Company, said at the time. But that didn't stop 37 UCF fans from pooling $1,665 on GoFundMe for the billboard, according to ESPN.

After Monday night's CFP Championship game, Alabama finished at No. 1 with 57 out of 61 AP votes upon victory against Georgia 26-23 in overtime.

A group of fans is trying to convince Alabama to schedule a home-and-home with UCF, and they're doing so with a billboard in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama hasn't played a non-conference home-and-home since it played Penn State in 2010 and 2011.

The AP national championship is the 11th for the Crimson Tide, three more than any other school, and fifth under coach Nick Saban since 2009.

So it's unlikely that Alabama will all of a sudden grant a random "We Want Bama" request to play UCF in a home-and-home series. The Crimson Tide are set to open the 2018 season in Orlando vs. Louisville. And it's kind of a shame, really.

In the final Associated Press Top 25, UCF was ranked No. 6. All of this was established before the Knights went out and beat the Auburn Tigers, staking a legitimate claim to the title. Another game, against Georgia Tech, was canceled because of Hurricane Irma.
