The real reason Elton John is retiring

He's the father of 7 and 5-year-old sons.

He said that when it's over, he plans to spend as much time in England with his husband David Furnish and their two boys as possible.

"It's the last time that I will be touring and travelling the world, because my priorities have changed in my life", John told several hundred journalists and guests after a mini-concert and virtual reality presentation of his career. That doesn't mean to say I'm not going to be creative. I'll be doing more exhibitions with photography.

He started playing live as a member of Bluesology in 1962, formed a songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin in 1967 and (changing his name from Reg Dwight) released his first solo single in 1968.

His farewell tour will include more than 300 shows over the next three years. "I'm really looking forward to this tour and I'm really looking forward to the 300th date", he said.

"I'm not one of those people who says I'm retiring and then does loads more shows". I want to spend more time with them.

Elton John is stepping away from touring after one final worldwide trek.

After an iconic five decades as a performer, Sir Elton John had two big reasons to drop the mic and retire from touring. I'll hopefully be making more records.

Meanwhile, in 2013, he was forced to cancel a planned appearance at London's Hyde Park because he needed to undergo emergency appendicitis surgery. But I love them so much.
