The show, based on the film which was co-written and co-directed by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) has been given a pilot order and will be a half hour comedy.

The film was about a group of vampires who live together in Wellington, New Zealand, and struggling with mundane day-to-day existence.

Given the fact that Clement and Waititi starred in the original, plenty of fans want to see Vladislav and Viago reunite but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

The New Zealand cast will be replaced by Americans for the U.S. pilot.

2017 will be known as the year of Taika Waititi.

Waititi's career has taken off after the success of Thor: Ragnarok, a Marvel comedy movie released in October previous year that was a critical hit and box office success story.

Waititi and Clement will be executive producers for the half-hour television series, produced by FX Productions, Variety reports.

FX, home of American Horror Story and Legion, seems like a good fit for a bloodthirsty dark comedy about vampire roommates who don't always get along with the human world. or each other.

Matt Berry (Toast of London) and Natasia Demetriou are among the stars on the TV-spin-off of hit vampire film What We Do In The Shadows. They constantly squabble over minor things like household chores.

Waititi also announced that a TV show called Paranormal Event Response Unit was in the works, focusing on the inept cops that featured in the film.
