The Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are now more than $1 billion combined.

That makes Saturday's Powerball jackpot, in particular, likely the eighth largest lottery prize ever.

Pennsylvania has sold 17 Powerball jackpot-winning tickets since joining the game in 2002, and two jackpot-winning Mega Millions tickets since joining the game in 2010.

The cash option on the Mega Millions win would be $277 million. Powerball tickets may be purchased until 8:45 p.m. on Saturday. There were five tickets worth $1 million each sold in Florida, California, North Carolina, New York and OR, and another ticket in Florida is worth $2 million.

According to statistics provided by the Texas Lottery, the most common gold Mega Ball number since October 31, 2017 (when the game changed to its current format) is the No. 22 (three times).

The Powerball jackpot had jumped from $468 million on Wednesday to $550 million on Thursday, after Wednesday night's drawing did not produce a victor. As you get higher in school, you'll get more money.

But to keep hope alive, they also lowered the odds for winning the second prize of $1 million from 1 in 18 million to 1 in 13 million.

Those sales dropped back to $349 million in 2017, without the lure of a billion-dollar payout. The state's largest Mega Millions jackpot was a $91.8 million cash-value prize claimed by a Virginia man in 2015. The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven in Port Richey, Florida.

And sales always go up when the jackpots do.

"I wish there were at least ten winners because it is too much money for only one people", said lottery player Jorge Knapp. Aid to education was $3.3 billion, down $33 million from the previous year. Friday night's Mega Millions jackpot is the fourth-largest in the game's history. That's nearly $4 billion dollars in prize money.

The odds of winning both the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are 1 in 88 quadrillion.
