Many believed Patricia would be the Lions' new head coach because he and Detroit GM Bob Quinn, a former Patriots exec, would keep it in the family as products of New England, too.

On Wednesday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported "all signs are pointing to" Patricia as the Giants' next head coach.

"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots are bracing for defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to leave, most likely to become the next coach of the Detroit Lions", Florio wrote. Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur could be in play there, or with the Giants.

Aside from Patricia, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and linebackers coach Brian Flores also drew interest from other teams.

While Patricia is favored to be chosen by the Giants, the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals are also interested in Patricia, whose calling card is a wild-man appearance featuring a bushy beard and backward hat. The NFL coaching carousel sure is spinning with Patricia.

The New York Giants and newly appointed general manager Dave Gettleman continue to do their due diligence in the search for franchise's next head coach.

"If the Giants give the nod to Patricia, Detroit could be Vrabel's job". "The news was that the Patriots believe he will be leaving, regardless of where he ends up". During that span, NY has had five other coaches: Ray Handley (1991-92), Dan Reeves (1993-96), Jim Fassel (1197-2003), Tom Coughlin (2004-2015) and Ben McAdoo (2016-17).

Patricia would be the first defensive-minded coach to take over the Giants since Pro Football Hall of Famer Bill Parcells initial retirement in 1990.
