HMD Global upgrades Nokia 6 smartphone for China launch

The big change in Nokia 6 (2018) is the processor. The smartphone is expected to unveil in February at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. The same is true about its pricing as well, which means, much like its predecessor, the new Nokia 6 also appears to be a solid mid-ranger, at least on paper.

The purported Nokia 6 (2018) has dropped by TENAA and could make its debut soon enough, perhaps as soon as CES 2018. The same is true about the core hardware set. Instead, the new Nokia device gets a regular 16:9 aspect ratio display with prominent bezels on top and bottom. There are other smartphones that are more affordable, however, the Nokia 6 (2018) might prove to be worth every cent. Speaking of which, the Nokia 6 2018 now comes with a rear-mounted finger-print scanner. While the 2017 model had a front-facing fingerprint scanner, the latest version carries it to the back and also loses the capacitive keys in favour of on-display navigation buttons.

The Nokia 6 2nd-gen model comes with a slightly different design and upgraded innards.

Other new additions are a type USB-C port.

The listings on TENNA suggest that the device might feature 1.5GHz dual-core chip paired with 256MB RAM and 512MB internal storage. The most anticipated smartphone among them is probably the long-rumored Nokia 9.

HMD is looking to change all that with the Nokia 6 2018. But what's happened has happened and it's nice to see HMD realizing the Nokia 6's obvious downsides. The smartphone is priced starting at Yuan 1,499 (Rs 14,637 approx) for 32GB storage model and Yuan 1,699 (Rs 16,590 approx) for 64GB storage version. The Snapdragon 630, in addition, also offers more advanced connectivity options: 2X higher download speed and more advanced Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The Nokia 6 (2018) now support Bluetooth 5.0, which is a great thing, as it is a lot faster than Bluetooth 4.2.

Elsewhere, the speaker setup on-board the original Nokia 6 came with dual amplifiers and support for Dolby Atmos sound technology. The handset has an 8-megapixel rear camera sensor with an LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera sensor and packs a 4100mAh battery.

But the handset has already been revealed on Nokia's official website for the China region, giving fans an early look at what to expect from the phone. Hopefully, by the time the Nokia 6 2018 hits global markets; it would be running Oreo so we can only wait and watch on that one for now. Word is HMD plans to launch the Nokia 7 in India later this month.

We're just a few hours away from the launch of Nokia's 6 smartphone and the leaks continue to pour in.
