FA Cup match report Manchester United v Derby County 05 January 2018

When you look at the name Jesse Lingard on the Manchester United roster, next to guys like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, he's just an afterthought.

Marcus Rashford was presented with the best chance of the half as a fortunate bobble gave him space to pull the trigger towards goal, but he fired his shot just over the bar - the shot should've hit the target, and if it did, would've given the hosts a deserved lead.

The Red Devils have already lost to a Championship club this season, as they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Bristol City in December, and they could not be facing a more in-form side, as Derby have only lost one of their last 11 matches.

United got its first win in five matches on Monday by notching two second-half goals to get a 2-0 win at Everton.

Pogba dominated the midfield in the early stages and he teed up Lingard to fire over the top from 10 yards in just the third minute.

Pogba then had a golden chance in the 77th minute after the ball fell for the Frenchman inside the Derby box, but he scuffed his effort wide, and it did appear that the tie was heading for a replay.

Ander Herrera was the next Manchester United player to come close six minutes later but the Spaniard failed to hit target from a set piece from Rashford.

The breakthrough would eventually come on 84 minutes, with Lingard unleashing a cracking effort from outside the box after a lay-off from sub Romelu Lukaku. Scott Carson played well and the post played well for them.

Lukaku was next to head wide on 55 minutes, before Thomas Lawrence forced a diving save from Romero.

Not to be outdone, Lukaku then played a good give-and-go with Anthony Martial before tucking his shot under the advancing Carson to secure United's passage to the FA Cup fourth round.
