Officials said an employee at Penn State Beaver was led outside by her estranged husband, where he shot her in the parking lot and then shot and killed himself. Pennsylvania State Police tell the station the shooting is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide.

Hermick said it wasn't a random event.

There was never a threat to the general campus population, Hermick said. "So right now we're in the process of researching where the guns were purchased from".

Penn State Beaver spokeswoman April Johnston-Smith says the campus was closed for the day but not many students were on campus due to finals week.

In a letter to students obtained by WTAE, the school confirmed the "tragic act of violence" on campus "which did not involve students".

Penn State Beaver issued an alert just before 4 p.m. Wednesday that shots were fired, adding that the situation is contained.
