No. 25 Boise State beats OR 38-28 in Las Vegas Bowl

It was 25th-ranked Boise State 38, OR 28 - UO's third consecutive bowl loss, and a game that capped a roller-coaster two weeks for the Ducks after losing head coach Willie Taggart to Florida State just 11 days before. Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit and Molly McGrath will call the game. Ryan Wolpin rushed for two touchdowns. Herbert, who has thrown 32 touchdown passes against seven interceptions in two seasons as a starter, faces a Boise State secondary that allowed 172 yards passing and no touchdowns through the air in the Mountain West championship game against Fresno State.

Herbert was unable to lead Oregon's offense to points until the fourth quarter with Boise State's defense controlling the game.

Boise State: The Broncos are still the class of the Mountain West.

Tyre Brady had 165 yards receiving and gave the Thundering Herd the lead in the second quarter with a 76-yard TD reception.

Alex Mattison leads Boise State's rushing attack.

CELEBRATION BOWL Lamar Raynard scored on a 1-yard sneak with 38 seconds left, and unbeaten North Carolina A&T won its second Celebration Bowl in three years, defeating Grambling State, 21-14, in Atlanta.

On defense, Leighton Vander Esche is first with 129 total tackles while also making 5.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 3 interceptions. The Aggies claimed titles in 1990 and 1999 in addition to 2015, when they defeated Alcorn State 41-34 in the first Celebration Bowl.

With Saturday's win, Boise State finished a season with at least 11 wins for the first time since 2014.

The Panthers (7-5) finished with a winning record with the first bowl win in Georgia State's eight-year football history. The Ducks are averaging 36.7 points per game while surrendering 28.3 points per game.

Mason Fine passed for 303 yards and three touchdowns for North Texas but was intercepted twice and fumbled twice.

The choreography momentarily froze the OR defense, helping clear the path for Wolpin to run in a one-yard touchdown after a backwards pass from quarterback Brett Rypien. OR averaged 52.1 points in the seven games Herbert started this season, but only scored a total of 75 points in five games when the sophomore was out with a broken collarbone.

The Broncos were in position to add to that lead even more late in the first half, as they drove the ball down to the OR 10-yard line with less than one minute remaining.

OR senior safety Tyree Robinson converted on his stated goal coming into the game of scoring with a 100-yard return to make the score 24-14 at halftime. Cristobal takes over for Willie Taggart, who left OR for the Florida State job.

Oregon: LB Troy Dye has 103 tackles in his sophomore season, 48 more than the next closest Oregon defender, middle linebacker Jimmie Swain.

The Broncos were able to accomplish that, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter before the Ducks had two first downs. As for the Ducks, the head-coaching debut for Mario Cristobal was a bust.

The 2017 Las Vegas Bowl between OR and Boise State can be streamed on the WatchESPN app.
