The offense focused on getting tight end Travis Kelce into mismatches in coverage, and Smith was able to connect with him on two touchdown passes of 22 and 36 yards.

The Kansas City Chiefs didn't change quarterbacks on Sunday from Alex Smith to Patrick Mahomes.

Still it wasn't enough.

Kansas City cornerback Marcus Peters had a meltdown late in a one-possession game after a penalty was called against the Chiefs on a failed New York Jets two-point conversion. They face the Oakland Raiders next Sunday and the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.

The Chiefs' 31 points were more than they've had in a game since Week 5. After McCown's go-ahead touchdown, the Chiefs drove down to the Jets' 19-yard line.

Logan had a personal foul penalty on a field-goal attempt with 3:58 to play to give the Jets a first down, and Nelson had a holding penalty on third down with 2:39 left to give the Jets another first down.

In a major surprise, middle linebacker Darron Lee was listed as one of the Jets' inactives for today's game against the Chiefs. With the defensive line unable to generate a sack on the day, much pressure was put on the Chiefs' defensive backs to make plays and force turnovers.

Both the Jets and Chiefs have lost five of six and are trying to get their seasons back on track. But Kansas City's Bennie Logan was called for a personal foul for hitting long snapper Thomas Hennessy in the head on the play. The Chiefs generally script those plays well before kickoff; they are not selected in the moment.
