Long Island Iced Tea will now be known as Long Blockchain

Blockchain is a digital ledger sheet where transactions in cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin are recorded.

It follows a similar move by a British company in October, when On-line Plc announced plans to change its name to On-line Blockchain Plc, sending its share price soaring 394pc - the biggest one-day gain for the small-cap company since its first listing in 1996.

The effect on the company's stock price was nearly instantaneous. Those opportunities, which as of now haven't turned into solid partnerships or agreements, include a blockchain infrastructure developer in financial services, a London-based foreign-exchange services provider developing blockchain and cryprocurrency technology for financial markets, and a smart-contract platform.

LongFin, a financial tech firm that recently went public, has skyrocketed after announcing that it bought a blockchain microlender.

The company said it would request to change its trading symbol as well. It didn't say what the new symbol would be.

"We view advances in blockchain technology as a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and have made the decision to pivot our business strategy in order to pursue opportunities in this evolving industry", Thomas said in the press release.

Up until this morning, Long Blockchain was a little-known company making non-alcoholic lemonades and ice teas. Just change your name to something blockchain.

"The discussions are only in the preliminary stages but indicate the areas of focus for the company", it said "There is no assurance that a definitive agreement with these, or any other entity, will be entered into or ultimately consummated". Over the past year, shares have traded between $1.70 and $9.49.
