Passengers who spoke to the media said the airplane had landed straight but then started to slide and spin while taxiing, and ended up in a snowbank.

"Pilot did a fantastic job", Chisholm said. Passengers on board applauded the pilot when the plane came to a halt.

"It could have been a lot worse", Brian Heacox told CBS Boston as he recalled the plane fishtailing "until we were looking at the runway that we had just pulled off".

One of the plane's pilots said as quoted by ABC, "Everything's fine. We just skidded on the ice".

Firefighters helped passengers off of the plane and they were bused to the terminal.

Earlier on Monday, Logan Airport shut down its runways and grounded its flights due to heavy snow, which brought about poor visibility.

"As a precaution, we are not departing or landing aircraft at the moment", airport officials said in a statement. Massport officials say runways were cleared by 11:30 a.m.

Although the precipitation was supposed to wrap up around noon, temperature continued to drop as National Weather Service warned of a "flash freeze" in the greater Boston area.
