Bryan Singer Fired From Directing Queen Biopic After On-Set Chaos

On Wednesday, two days after Bryan Singer was sacked from the project, Fox announced that production of Bohemian Rhapsody will resume next week under the direction of Dexter Fletcher.

He made his directorial debut in 2011 with urban drama Wild Bill, for which he was nominated for a Bafta Film Award, and also directed Sunshine on Leith in 2013.

The film was almost finished when Singer was sacked and Fletcher, who was originally tapped to direct the film in 2014 but left the project over creative differences, was rehired, according to The Wrap.

The actor turned Bafta-nominated director was previously set to direct the Mercury film only to leave the project in 2014.

The film will resume production next week under Fletcher, with about two weeks of shooting left unless Fletcher decides to do reshoots, Deadline reported.

Singer denied any misdoings and issued a lengthy response to his firing through a lawyer - saying an ailing parent pulled his focus from the project and had compromised his own health. He is also a veteran actor, having appeared in projects like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Band of Brothers.

Rami Malek stars as rock icon Freddie Mercury in the upcoming film "Bohemian Rhapsody". With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents.

The film is now scheduled for release in December next year. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services.
