Amazon Australia has launched, music coming soon

This time it is very real.

After much anticipation and hype, Amazon is offering free delivery on eligible orders above $49 that are sold by Amazon.

"Incumbent Australian retailers will face stiff competition, and will be forced to offer customers more variety at competitive prices, and potentially same-day delivery at no cost", Ng said.

"We've always believed that Amazon is here to assist the retailers of Australia to grow and develop their businesses both locally and internationally". There are no imminent plans to bring it here.

Millions of products are now available to Australians, including electronics, toys, tools, clothing, and other knick-knacks. Are you happy?! Now get on with buying your old man USB cables for his birthday, because he keeps losing them.

But there's some good news on the horizon, according to Marin Currie Australia consumer sector research analyst, Jim Power, who said the Australian retail sector, by and large, can cope with the arrival of Amazon.

The e-commerce giant has already been selling Kindle e-reader devices, audio books and content from its Australian website but it has now activated its full-service local offering, featuring its own products and items sold by small local retailers.

Amazon did not say what time of day it would begin taking orders from its Australian warehouse, except to say it would be on December 5.

One of Australia's leading retailers, Gerry Harvey of Harvey Norman, says he's not anxious about Amazon and warned consumers to beware of its promises to deliver before Christmas.

"By concentrating on providing a great shopping experience and by constantly innovating on behalf of customers, we hope to earn the trust and the custom of Australian shoppers in the years to come".

Currently Amazon Australia employs around 1000 people in its Dandenong South warehouse and corporate offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.

"By tapping into our global experience and decade of learnings, we are excited to help Australian brands and retailers thrive in what will be a new retail paradigm in our market", Fowler says.
