"OK Waze" Voice Control, HOV Lane Support in Canada and More

Waze wants to help you find some a nice route to cruise.

Google bought Waze about four years ago, and since then, there haven't been a lot of major upgrades to the navigation apps. Talk to Waze is now available for English-speaking Wazers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, and New Zealand, and will continually roll out in more languages soon.

An evolution of our existing Waze Voice Commands, you can now initiate your drive, get a preview of the route ahead, send reports, and add a pit stop-all without lifting a finger from the wheel.

The feature is available now for English speaking Wazers in a few countries including the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, but the company says that other languages and territories are on the way. To Waze on a motorbike, go to Settings Vehicle Type Motorcycles in your app.

Waze is getting a couple of new features today as the Google-owned navigation app targets two-wheeled motorists and doubles down on its safety credentials. This feature lets drivers get additional navigation options for their carpool lanes along their route. This could be a big win for bikers, since Google Maps has only shown off a similar feature in beta earlier this month.

Next up is the new Talk to Waze feature, which gives users the power to command the Waze app with only the sound of your voice and two magic words: "OK Waze." .

"Whether you're riding with one passenger or more; in a hybrid, electric, or clean-fuel auto; with a special pass; or a combination of all of the above, Waze will determine your optimal route". To switch the feature on, you'll need to provide the app with some extra details about your vehicle and its occupants because the requirements for using carpool lanes vary in different places.

Waze supports carpool lanes in 21 US states and Washington, D.C.as well as Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, Canada.

If you're riding with several people in the vehicle, head to Settings, tap Navigation, tap Add Toll/HOV pass, and select from a list of HOV passes in your area. Waze can now offer routes and travel estimates based on the use of HOV lanes when available.
